Flooring Care Tips

Simple things you can do to take care of your floors during the winter

taking care of your floors in the winterIs known as the most wonderful time of the year! And it should come as no surprise that it is the most costly and labor-intensive period of the year for floor care, no matter what type of flooring you have in your home or office. Yes! We are talking about winter. This is because dirt and debris get tracked into the house with the snow and slush - and that's not even considering the moisture from snow or the salt residue that can also wreak havoc on your floor. With all this in mind, it important to put in the extra effort to properly care and maintain your flooring during these cold weather months, and we've got the tips and suggestions to keep your floors looking great.

Things you can do to protect your floors during the winter:

1.    Coat the floors: If you have hard floors in your home or office, consider applying a protective coating on it before winter fully arrives.

2.    Doormats: Doormats on both the inside and outside of the home or office entrances can help capture much of the dirt, grime and moisture that can potentially be brought in during the winter. Just be sure to clean and vacuum the mats off often so that they don't become ineffective at capturing dirt and residue.

3.    Vacuum: If you have a carpet, it's important to increase your vacuuming frequency during the winter months. The dirt, grime and salt residue that are tracked in can embed deep into the carpet if it's not removed quickly. It's also a good idea to have your carpets professionally cleaned to remove residue once spring arrives.

4.    Get a humidifier: Water and moisture from snow aren't the only wintertime hazards to wood flooring. A lack of humidity can warp wood floorboards as well, potentially shrinking them. That's why it's recommended to keep humidity levels within the home as consistent as possible at all times of the year. In the winter, this can be done by acquiring a humidifier.
