Tile can be installed in more places of your home than just the floors. You can also install tile on your walls and outside as a patio. There are tile that are super durable and tiles that are small and light, so there is bound to be an option for your next project.

Below, Jim Aaron explains how to choose the right tile for your home.

Different Types of Tile

There are many different tile options including stone, ceramic, porcelain, mosaic and glass. The two most common tile options are ceramic and porcelain. They both come in a wide variety of options and are great for kitchens and bathrooms. Porcelain tile is made from the same materials as ceramic, but porcelain is much denser and more waterproof.

Other tile like mosaic and glass are made from mostly recycled materials. They are used as backsplash and wall tile and occasionally as accents for flooring. Unlike porcelain and ceramic tile, wall and backsplash tile are not meant for flooring.

We even have stone tile flooring. Stone tile is cut from slabs and quarried from different locations so not all are alike. When properly sealed and maintained, stone flooring will last for years.

Tile Installation

When it comes to choosing tile, knowing the room you plan on installing it can help you determine the type of tile you need. For tile in entryways and kitchens, choose something that is super durable and resistant to moisture and stains such as porcelain. Ceramic tile is a great option for bathrooms and kitchens as well. For wall tile and backsplash tile, something light and slightly absorbent is a good option so it will adhere to the wall better and stay up.

When done properly, tile installation can be easy. We always recommend having a professional do the job for you though. We can work with you to style your room around your new floors and even help you choose the right grouts and glazes.
